February 17, 2014

My extremely sweet mother who is very funny!

Know one could probably say it more than you that you love your missionary!  The baptism was fantastic!!!  One of the sisters who was going to speak couldn't come so I got to speak in her place and man was the spirit strong!  I felt like it was the strongest part of the baptism!  It was so cool and I know everyone in there was feeling the spirit really strong!  My companion told me after that it was really good!  Everyone that I have talked to since I began in the MTC has told me that I speak Spanish really well.  My companion says I have better pronunciation than the other Americans he's seen.  He also told me I have an accent from Spain!  My companion told me that when he fist met me he thought I had a lot more time in the mission because of how well I speak Spanish and he was really surprised when he found out I only have a little.  All the members have told me that I speak really well too!!  I'm really happy for this, to know that Heavenly Father is helping me because there is no way I can talk like this on my own.  I've also seen parts of my patriarchal blessing come true out here.  Well the part about where it says that my friends will come to me for counsel and that I should give them good counsel.  My companion has a lot of trust in me and he has come to me for counsel a lot of times.  He also told me the other day that I give him really good counsel and help him to see things in a new way and with a different point of view!  I thought this was way cool.  I did feel really good with the baptism that it was someone that I started working with and got to see it through to the end!

On the 26th of February I will have been out 8 months.  We have a general authority coming here!  His name is President Johnson from the first quorum of the seventy!  I'm super excited to get to meet him.  It's just going to be him meeting with our zone here!  The Branch members are treating me really well.  They all love me!!!  They are all super cool.  We all get along really well.  I'm going to take a lot of pictures with them so you can see.  On Sundays I get to pass the Sacrament or bless the Sacrament a lot because there are not a lot of priesthood.  It's a little bit different in Spanish but I still try to put all my feeling into it and make it special.  Most priesthood holders here just say it at record speeds.

One of my fears is that I'm not worthy enough or humble enough or obedient enough to receive the blessings talked about in my patriarchal blessing.  My fear is that because I've made mistakes, that maybe it might take away all those blessings and promises... I see so many things I need to do better and it worries me that I'm becoming worse and not better.  I want to be worthy of those blessings and be humble and obedient enough to receive them.  Really my only desire in this life is to follow Heavenly Father and the Savior and do what they want.   I always feel so good when I obey and am doing what's right.  Disobeying and not following Heavenly Father isn't  worth it.  I feel terrible and it's just not good.  I love the feeling of pleasing Heavenly Father and it hurts me when I let him down.  I love you lots and lots and lots!!!!!

Love you for eternity and beyond!

Buenos tardes Papa

My week was great!!  I finally had my first baptism!!!  It was super awesome!!!  One of the sisters who was supposed to talk didn't show up so I talked in her place and it was really good.  I felt the spirit the strongest in that moment!!  My companion told me it was really good too!  The weather is acting really weird over there.  It's mostly been sunny and hot over here.

I write in my journal everyday about what happened that day and I haven't really missed a day!  I've been doing that since I started in the MTC.  That's why I need so many journals!  The days that I have missed I recorded what happened during the next day so it's still all recorded.  I know a lot of times I might not see the fruit of my labors but I know it's there.  Although I realize that I'd rather see the results.  Well if it turns out to be that way I hope that I'll find out about it at some point in the future!  Actually I've found that I really do like tracting and talking with lots of people!  I feel good doing it and its cool to meet lots of people and we have had success with it!

Something that's been hard for me right now is getting up on time which is really weird because back at home I was getting up at 5:30 no problem but here it's like world war 3 haha.  Gregorio probably won't be baptized while I'm here which makes me sad but it's ok as long as he gets baptized!  Thanks a lot Dad!  Love you.  Have a great week!

Love you more Dad!

jajaja!  eres muy comico mama!  te amo muchisimo!  You can say mijo haha, its short for my son!  Ok first things first.  We moved the baptism to this Saturday so that we could prepare it better, so for sure it will happen this Saturday!! I'm going to use Spanish for the rest of my life!  I was thinking the other day that I've got 3 really good things I can put on a job resume.  I'm a returned missionary, I'm an Eagle Scout and I speak fluent Spanish.  My next transfer date is March 2 and I'm thinking I'll probably leave this area, but who knows.  The work is going really good in my area!  President is really happy with me!  In fact he asked us to look for another house to rent here in Tempoal because he is going to divide the city into 2 areas and we are going to have 4 missionaries here! So this change we have been looking and we have found a few houses to rent.  We are just waiting for him to tell us to start renting!  We might actually get a companionship of Sister missionaries here!

Love the quotes you send me.  Remember even in the hard days we can choose to be happy!!!  It's all mental because that's where it all starts!  I sure love you too!!!  My day was great.  We went to Huejutla again and played soccer and basketball.  Thanks  for everything Mom!  I love you too.

Much love for a muchly loved Mom!

Good evening Pops!!!

We do tracting in a different kind of way.  Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't.  I've found though that it works normally if we ask people if they know of anyone who wants to know Jesus or likes to talk about him.  That has worked a few times.  Service is really hard to do here.  We ask people if we can help and they always tell us no.  They aren't very receptive that way it seems.  I'll just keep trying!  Sometimes I don't feel very successful because in my blessing I was told that I would convert many members and nonmembers alike to the gospel so it would be a benefit for them but I haven't seen that come true much yet. We actually changed the baptism to this Saturday so we could plan it better.  Oh and something funny happened lol!  We got in a taxi and we heading for the center of town and I was talking with he drier and I asked him if he was tired but the thing is that in Spanish, tire is cansado and it sons like another word, casado.  The driver thought I said casado and that means married haha.  So he thought I asked him if he was married and he looked at me funny and showed me his hand and said yeah I'm married.  We were all laughing a lot.  But I corrected him and told him I had asked if he was tired lol.  Thanks so much for everything Dad!  I sure love you!!!

Hey Mom!

Love ya!  My week was ok.  Mostly up and down but it's ok.  Some weeks are like that:)  Thanks for getting my package mailed.  My companion says thanks for sending him treats!  That's really funny that Bryce is going through the temple on Valentines day!  Tell him congrats and I'm happy for him and love him!  Our investigators are doing great and so are me and my companion!  One of our investigators came to church for the first time with us and she was fasting and also she wanted to donate a fast offering so we helped her to do it!  It was so great!  The truth is Mom that I can't let myself get discouraged.  When we give satan an inch he takes a thousand miles!  I feel discouragement sometimes but I don't like to focus on it at all.  I love to be positive and optimistic and pray a lot!  It really helps!:)  I've had companions too that don't follow the rules exactly and we had arguments and it was hard but we always fixed things an I learned how to work with someone like that.  It really helped actually.  I know I won't be perfect but I can sure try my best to be.  The truth is that not all missionaries follow the rules and when you are in a situation like that it's really hard but it's possible.  I love you Mom!!!!  Remember if we stay down we can't make it to God.  Be happy now and don't wait for the happiness to come!  Pdays are great!  We usually play soccer and it's a lot of fun!  Another thing that helps is to not focus on bad things.  We can think about our situation and pity ourselves but that's bad.  We have the power to change our situation so lets not wait and go do it!  Love you lots Mom!!!  You are the best Mom in the world and I'm super lucky to have you.  Love ya!

Good morning Dad

Love you!  I'm really glad you get to work in the Gilbert temple.  This week was up and down but ok.  More than anything this week just wore me out spiritually.  I'm just working on getting through it right now, but I'm really ok.  Contacts are coming really good.  We are contacting a lot more and things are going ok.  Well the new area was great and the people were really nice but president called us and told us we couldn't go there anymore because it's a little dangerous so we don't go there anymore.  But the good news is that we are going to have a baptism this week!  The sister we were visiting in the new area will be baptized on Saturday at 4.  I'm super excited!  At times it's tough but it doesn't feel like a burden being here.  It feels more like an endurance race.  At times I feel tired and worn out but other times I feel excited and recharged.  Thank you for your advice!  It would be great if you could tell me of ways that you had success on your mission.  Maybe I could try them here.  Thanks for all the concern!!!  I'm really doing good here!  We have a lot of success here!  I love you Dad!

Hola Mama!  te amo mucho

You have been missed too!  No worries you are going to have a lot of Sundays with me.  I'm really sorry though that it has been hard for you!  I can't wait to see how high you jump when I get off the plane.  My new companion is great, we get along really well.  In my package could you please send me like reeses or snickers or butterfingers, I would be eternally grateful because they are really expensive here and I would really like one.  Oh and lots of jelly beans too.  There is a sister here who loves them but they don't sell them here.  Can you ask Bishop if he can send like 1 or 4 coins like I have?  The ones with the armor of God.  There is a sister here who really loves the story behind it and I told her I would ask if he could send me one for her.

Remember just like Nephi said the Lord provides a way to fulfill his commandments there's know doubt about it in my mind!!  I know I'm in your prayers and thank you for that.  It's really good that you are praying for everyone else too!  I've been feeling pretty good.  Just a little under the weather on Saturday because I threw up some bad food but it was only because of that.  I don't have anything, I'm perfectly fine right now and I talked to Sister Jordan so don't worry all is well!!!  Can't wait to talk to you in May.  When we talk I will have been here for just about a year.  Thank you so much Mom!  I love you too more than I can say!  It would take me an eternity.  Love you bunches and bunches.

Love eternally your son

Hey Dad

How cool!!!  I'm so glad you have an interview with the Temple President.  I'm sure you are going to work in the new temple.  Congrats!!!  Life in the wilderness this week was good, apart from Saturday that is.  I was sick all day because I ate something bad and my body didn't like it so I threw it up but it was only a one day thing.  Don't worry!!!  The weather right now is hot and we haven't had rain for awhile but it will probably start raining soon.  In the morning its cold and in the afternoon its hot.

On Sunday we go to church, to Branch council, visit people and go to family home evening that the branch has every Sunday.  We have a lady getting baptized in a week from Saturday!!!  I'm so excited!!  It will be my first baptism here in the mission.  We have a few more we are trying to help them over the edge and into the baptismal font.  They just need a little bit more work but their hearts are  in the right place and that's what matters.  If they have the desire the Lord has a way.  My companion is doing great too!  I'll send you a picture of us when I can.  Just want you to know I'm not going to get mugged, people don't mess with us here.  They know we are people of God and they don't mess with those kind of people.  I don't ever feel scared or anything.  This week we got to go to a new area for proselyting that missionaries haven't gone to before.  It's a little community outside of Tempoal and there are some people that are interested there so who knows, we might be able to start a branch there.  I think we might actually!  Thanks a lot Dad!  I love you lots too.  Stay safe and thanks for your example!  Love ya.

Love ya Dad!

Hey Mom

Love you!!  Sorry I didn't write yesterday.  We had changes and I was on a bus all day going to get my new companion.  I didn't change, I'm still here in Tempoal which I'm really excited about!!!  I love it here and we are going to have a lot of baptisms in February.  We will have like 4 or 5, I'm so excited!!!  I did get a new companion though, his name is Elder Martinez and he is from Tijuana.  He is really cool and we are going to get lots of work done!  I'm going to learn a lot from him.  My week was great.  Things just keep getting better here!  We found new people to teach and we are doing good.  Jorge is doing fantastic!  The weirdest things happen to him.  This week he couldn't go to church because he was robbed and left on the side of the highway when he was returning from huejutla.  He is ok, no worries.  He is still really excited to be baptized.  The others are great too!  I am doing great and learning so much!  I feel so different and its awesome!  I love continually progressing.  Thank you so much Mom you are my hero too!  I love you lots and I love being happy!  It's like a disease and I love it.  I love you so much Mom!

Love forever and ever

jajaja muchas gracias padre! si, ahora estoy bien y no tengo problemas con parasitos!  jajaja mi companero y yo nos reimos mucho por su comentario del traductor jajaja!!!!  si no te preocupes esa bien!  Oh sorry  I didn't read that I don't need to reply in Spanish.  I'm doing great!  Sorry I didn't write yesterday, I was riding a bus like all day to pick up my new companion.  His name is Elder Martinez and he is awesome!  I'm going to learn a lot from him.  I'm still in the same area in Tempoal and I'm really excited for that!  We are going to have like 4 or 5 baptisms here in February.  We just finished a super powerful lesson with an investigator actually like 2 minutes ago.  We just put a baptismal date with her for February 8.  I asked her if she would prepare to be baptized on that day and her response was she just needed to get white clothes to be baptized in and she was ready and in my mind I was like holy cow!!!!!  She is super ready to be baptized.  She had a dream too that Christ was sitting in the door of a small plane that was flying really slow and she was in a field and he was beckoning her to come to him, and she believes that we are the ones that are calling her to him and that it is through us that she can get to him!  All this just happened about 5 minutes ago.

Thanks for the prayers.  The Lord definitely kept me in he right place, we are going to have a lot of success!  I feel new out here but I've been out 7 months, how time flies. Before you know it I'll be back home with you guys.  I love you so much!  Thanks for being an awesome Dad.

Love you for Eternity
